Reusable Pad Project Fall 2025

Zharity is gearing up again for another round of reusable pad making.  In 2023, Zharity started the Reusable Pad Project - collecting and preparing materials and sewing pads for community partners in Cameroon, Ethiopia and Hungary.  Since the project’s start, Zharity volunteers have made over 1100 reusable pads!!!  Providing reusable pads is a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to menstrual hygiene, especially important for underserved regions.  

Our goal this Fall is to prepare and sew at least 200 more pads for students at Nicolas Robinson School in Mekele, Ethiopia by November. We will start with 3 Material Preparation Events in the coming months, including for the first time, a weekend Material Preparation Event.  For these material preparation events, no sewing skill is necessary.  

We are also looking for those who have sewing machines at home to help us sew our next batch of pads, and are looking for sewers.  If you are interested, please sign up HERE.

If you sew, but maybe do not currently have access to a sewing machine, one of our sewing volunteers, Katherine Hege from Knit-Sew, will be graciously hosting open pad sewing events at her sewing studio on some Monday mornings throughout the Fall.  Her sewing studio is located in Zollikerberg.
