Suitcase Delivery

Thank you to all that responded so swiftly.  Some of the refugees arriving are staying in large refugee centers, some in temporary housing and some privately. We have been helping several of the facilities hosting refugees temporarily. Different ones need different support. One needed help with a person getting help at a medical facility. One of Ukrainian speaking volunteers jumped into action and reassured/guided the person in need.  One facility needed help finding local services to deaf refugees. Our collections coordinator was able to get them guided to the right place. (And she has since been able to help others, as she was able to find the exact person to contact).

One of the facilities, we have been providing personal care items, snacks, a baby stroller for a mom that was unable to bring one with her and suitcases/backpacks. As these individuals have been receiving some additional needed items, the small bags they brought with them are either torn, lost or too small.

Our amazing donors rose to the occasion. In one hour of drop offs - we were able to fill 3 cars and deliver 22 suitcases and 10 backpacks. (That was the exact number they needed). These quick donations will allow these families to move to their next destination with a little more ease.

Thank you to our suitcase and backpack donors.

Heidi, Kati, Jane, April, Kamini, Dana, Christine, Hannah, Nataliya, Kelly, Sharon, Jen, Sara, Chloe, Sarah, Grace, Elena, Katya, and Tyahlo.

Thank you to Sharon and family for the artful notes and treats.

Special thanks to Danny for helping us get to the right location for support within the deaf community.

Shout- out to Claudia for her continued determination to find all the services she can for those in need.

And to Ewa, Mette and Katie for their drop offs today for 3 locations in need of help.

And to our drivers and volunteers: Dimi, Jane, Priscilla and Jyoti!

The remaining suitcases and backpacks collected - were brought to our storage unit - for two purposes. We may be called upon again to provide additional suitcases for the next group of refugees staying there (which would mean - we would have a headstart on getting the collection going). In addition, we do send additional help to refugee hosts and if there is a refugee that is arriving. When we can, we provide needed items in a backpack or suitcase for the refugee to keep. We were even able to send some handmade art and treats along with the suitcases.

Thank you all once again for stepping up and in when needed. Together we can help during this very challenging time. Please continue to follow us social media to keep up with our work and our future callouts.
