Meet the Volunteer: Giada Varvello

Name: Giada Varvello

I’m originally from Milan, Italy. I moved to Zürich with my husband and daughter many years ago. I love people and change, I’m eager to learn new things and always appreciate giving and receiving a big hug. You can hear my laughter from far away ;-)

What personal experiences drew you to charity work?

I did my first volunteer experience when I was 17 and it was eye opening. I went there to give, while I received much more! From then onwards, I’ve volunteered in many different circumstances with different roles. It’s given me the possibility to meet amazing people with many different stories, to always have a better perspective about how blessed I was, and to feel a sense of community and belonging.

How did you get involved with Zharity?

When I moved here, I struggled to find the right place to volunteer because of the language barrier. While I was looking for the right place, a friend suggested that I check out Zharity. I attended an online coffee talk and immediately decided to join.

What projects are you currently working on?

What I like about volunteering with Zharity is that I don’t do just one thing, I help where I can and where I’m needed. I’ve participated in the Reusable Pad Project and Corporate Cleanups, helped to organize Kit-making events, and I’m a drop-off point for donations. When I can, I love to go to our unit to help sort out all the items we’ve received.

It’s flexible, practical, and I’ve met so many diverse and kind women… I’m loving it!
